Berber Moroccan art is kind of trendy right now. This article goes beyond a simple trend, since my intention is to show this beautiful culture and the need to rescue it from oblivion.

The Berbers or Amazighs were a nomad tribe from northern Africa, nowadays the majority of the Berber population live in Morocco, Libya, Algeria and Tunisia.

They are one of the oldest civilizations of North Africa and they were conquered by Muslims around the 7th century, so the majority of Berbers are sunni Muslims.

Berbers in the Desert

However, some groups of Berbers still hold their ancient traditions which were sincretised with Islam. If you take the Sahara tour the Berbers will guide you all the time. They are extremely close to their family and have a great tradition with textiles. Every pattern or carpet they make is unique, so it is almost impossible to repeat the same pattern twice in a lifetime.

In Morocco the majority of the Berbers live in the south; in the north, they are mostly Arabs.

Why is it important to buy Berber Art?

It carries the memory of an ancient tradition even before the Islamic conquest. The textile art is so ancient that you cannot record its beginnings.

Families pass on this tradition from generation to generation, and it is important that the demands of the modern world do not extinguish the roots of a rich and unique culture. I am so interested in discovering Berber art.

Surprisingly, I found these beautiful jackets with their pattern designs. The search was hard because the store is located in one of the hidden streets of Taghazout.

So, I was able to find it on instagram. These designs make a great tribute to Berber art in jackets that are carefully selected in the different Souks (markets), so each one is unique as the Berber designs are. You can order online or visit them in Taghazout, they sell the jackets at the Offshore surf shop.

Check out their Instagram page to see their beautiful designs.
