Train ride to the North

Train ride:

Malmö - Stockholm : 5:30 hrs

Stockholm - Luleå : 11.30 hrs

It was my first time spending more than 5 hours on a train. I was super excited, scared and nervous. My boyfriend booked beds in a 6 person cabin in the train from Stockholm to Luleå.

Luleå is 1 hr away from the arctic circle, and one of the biggest cities in the north of Sweden.

First of all, I have to confess that I had never slept sharing a space with strangers. So this was a completely new experience.

When my boyfriend booked in, I was so confused: scared and excited about my new adventure.

So on Thursday at 17:00 pm we took the first train to Stockholm. Then in Stockholm, we got into the train up to Luleå. Our cabin companions had already set the beds down; we were on the first one at the normal seat level. They had already put our sheets and pillows on top of it. They were two guys going to a cross-country skiing camp. So I brushed my teeth and put on my pajamas and went to bed. I had a small night lamp next to my head, so I read almost until I fell asleep. We set the alarm at 9 a.m., since we were supposed to arrive at 10 am and we wanted to have breakfast.

I slept quite well. In the morning, we found out that we were 25 minutes delayed. Looking outside, the landscape was so beautiful: snow and the sun reflecting on it.

Finally, at 10:30 am we arrived at the station and our friends were waiting for us. My friends’ house is in a beautiful town near Luleå named Älvsbyn. All the cars have spikes and the roads are completely covered with ice and snow. Amazing!

If you have never been to the arctic circle, I highly recommend taking the train and enjoy the ride. Arriving by plane is also quite fun, but arriving by train makes it quite special. Here you can get special routes in the arctic train from Sweden.

Hope you get inspired to travel by train to the north pole!
